NMI TT Ion Channel Services

Ion channels are critical to a wide range of physiological functions in both excitable and non-excitable cells, and they are implicated in a variety of disorders affecting the central nervous system, the cardiovascular system,  the immune system, etc. Ion channels can also be unintended targets of new chemical entities, resulting in unwanted side effects.

Ion channels are already an important target class in drug discovery and safety pharmacology.  However, more than 400 ion channel structures have been identified in the human genome project, of which only about 100 have been cloned and functionally tested so far. Thus, strong efforts will continue at identifying new ion channels and validating these as novel drug targets.

To help fulfil the prerequisites for exploiting ion channels as drug targets, we offer state-of-the-art electrophysiological methods for the functional characterisation of ion channels in cell lines, native cells and tissues.

The following models are available:

We offer routine assays for compound screening as well as assay development.

Our assays allow to test for:

  • Compounds that interact specifically with physiologically relevant ion channels or receptors
  • Ion channel activity under physiological and pathophysiological conditions
  • Unwanted side effects of potential drugs on ion channel activity in early drug discovery
  • Interaction of compounds with cardiac hERG channels and their functional relevance
  • Probability of compounds to induce QT prolongation
  • Risk of possible generation of Torsade de pointes arrhythmia

Your benefits are:

  • High quality services
  • Customer-tailored solutions
  • All models as single elements or as complete packages
  • Conformity with FDA and EMEA guidelines

We are a highly skilled team of electrophysiologists, biochemists and pharmacologists who donīt just deliver data but tell you what the results mean!
